I have a 2005 LE Turbo model that I lost the fan last November. I bought a new fan from Napa and was assured that it would work with the Turbo model. My original fan had a pigtail harness with what I think is a ceramic resistor. I don't know this for sure because no one has been able to confirm this. It's a light tan colored 1"x4" oval, about 5/8" thick with a hole in the middle that mounts it to the fan housing. The harness near the driver's side bumper has a square plug. The pigtail has three wires leading from the square plug. One goes direct to the fan plug (two wire connector). The others go to the "resistor" and then to the other connector of the fan plug. Anyway, the aftermarket fan from Napa made a bunch of magic smoke when I connected everything up and tried the fan. They have agreed to replace it under warranty. But I have no reason to believe that a new one would work either.
Maybe someone here could shed some light on this for me (and anyone else with fan issues on their Turbo) http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...n-pigtail.html

The strange thing is that I've read all over this forum that the fans are different on the turbo model. Yet, many places that carry aftermarket fans show the same fan for the PT, turbo or not.
Here's a photo of the original fan housing with pigtail (disconnected at fan) and with the thing I'm thinking is a ceramic resistor. PT Cruiser Forum - NIL8r's Album: PT pictures - Picture

I think it is a different fan, I went on line and looked and it looks like the same fan for both. The only difference I see is on the years so maybe they sent you the wrong year? THAT'S what doesn't make sense to me. None of the information adds up. I wish someone could explain the "pigtail" thing to me and how it works. Is that the "variable speed secret" that Chrysler is charging extra for?
Plus, how can Chrysler justify $700 for a new fan when aftermarkets are under $150?

Thanks for the links Dino.
I've also done some web searching. Every photo that I see of the fan for the turbo version has the extra wiring and some sort of heatsink of whatever the white thing is in my photo.
