Unhappy Help with starting 2001 Pt Cruiser

Well, I guess it is just one of those things.

I had my OBDII scanner attached, I went to put my foot on the clutch and hit the scanner, the plastic connector of the OBDII connector came off and the pins were exposed. Some of them touched each other with power on. Then the car would not start. I have since fixed the connector.

The car was working fine before this episode and is now not working. It does respond to the key radio signal for locking the car, everything seems to work but the car will not even crank. When I turn the key the radio goes off, but nothing else happens.

I disconnected the battery, waited 10 minutes and tried again. The same thing happens. I inspected fuses and found no bad ones.

I tried to get trouble codes but the car does not respond.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you check the fuses in the PDC (fuse box) in the engine compartment? Especially the IOD fuse.

The IOD fuse would not cause the car not to start. Every single Chrysler product that comes in off the truck has the IOD fuse removed.

It almost sounds like when the wires touched, maybe you shorted out the computer.

I blew a fuse, not the IOD fuse but the ETX fuse. I just started testing them all until I found one that blew. Replaced it and the car started again. I did not spot this fuse in any of the wiring diagrams that had to do with the starter so I did not test it before.

Everything is good now.

Thanks for the help.

Do you mean the ETAX fuse No#15 20amp in the PDC of the engine compartment??

If that's the one, what a strange thing to make the cruiser into a non-starter because it's for the Electronic Automatic Transaxle.

Yes, that is the one. If you do not want a Pt Cruiser to go anywhere just pull it.

Well, I guessed the right fuse box, just the wrong fuse. Glad you got it running.

Fuse 15 also connects to the ignition switch, so it makes sense that the car wouldn't start. See the attached diagrams. In the second, it seems like power goes from the ignition switch, through fuse 15 and into the transmission controller relay.

Well, who knows why they would run it that way but makes sense now why it wouldn't start. Thanks.
