Talking Front Seat Plastic Side Panel Removal

I apologize for posting this again. I posted in the Interior Accessories Forum but didn't have any luck. Perhaps it will get more visibility here.

Greetings to all. This is my first post on this forum. I am a long standing moderator on Moparchat. I have a 2006 PT Cruiser base model that I am trying to install Shear Comfort Custom Seat Covers on.

I need to remove the plastic side panels on the seats and cannot for the life of me figure it out. I called the dealer and they brought the info up on the screen but everything they show is a fancy seat with heated option and side air bags. Nothing for a plain Jane base model.

The reason I chose to post here is because your site is PT only and very active. Our PT forum on Moparchat is seldom visited or posted on.

So, glad to be here and looking forward to your expertise and advice.

Are you talking about the panel that has the handle for adjusting the back part of the seat? If it is, mine has 3 indented Phillips head screws that let the panel come off when taken out.

Yes, but mine has no indentations or screws. I argued with the dealer about that.

Here is a link to show the side panels on my seats. No screws visible.

Ah! Another owner with a Vert that didn't happen to mention it with the original question.

Another Vert owner can't get his 3rd brake light apart when it's so easy on a hardtop.

You see, they build the Vert's in Tijuana, far from the original factory. They use an assortment of Super Glue's instead of nuts and bolts. You have to rip everything apart and buy new parts to put it back together.

Only kidding of course but it does sound like the Vert's are a whole new assembly line and questions about them have to answered by a tech that's especially trained.

Good luck. The panels probably just pry/snap off, but don't say I told you do to that.

No, I am sorry to mislead you. No, no vert. It is a plain Jane 4dr. I searched the web for pix and found that one that clearly shows side panels like mine.

You mean I posted all that for nothing.

I still say that the panels, if there's no screws, have to snap on/off. Just be very careful and see if you can see around the panel (somehow) to see how they might stay on.

Actually, you might stop by some body shop just to ask a few questions. They are usually pretty familiar with how cars come apart and they are not afraid to pull on things.
