My cruiser is making a knocking sound that does not seem to be coming from the engine and the mechanic has not figured it out. Anyone have any ideas??

First and foremost, it's time to find a new mechanic. Things like this are his job and it boggles my mind when mechanics can't diagnose the simplest of things.
We still need more info, though. Is it a knock going over bumps? Is it a steading knocking sound? Does it only knock under certain conditions? If it's over bumps, it can be struts, spring seats, or control arm bushings. If it's constant it can be a warped rotor, a rock in the caliper knocking against the rotor, a tire out of round, or any number of loose pieces that may be getting caught in the spokes of the wheel(s) as they're moving.

It is a constant knocking once I have been driving a while. It gets louder then stays for a few min after I put it in park.

How did you determine it's not in the engine?
