Default A/C Issues.... I looked around, couldnt find answer

I have an 01 cruiser that I purchased off my grandmother. Problem is that she NEVER used the A/C. I troubleshot it a little bit, I am in the red when I check the pressure, my fuses are all good, and I had a mechanic look at it, and he said everything seemed fine electrically. He said it didnt seem like the compressor was pulling in any of the 134... From what I absored from other threads so far, it seems like it could be a high pressure switch? Any other ideas or suggestions? I would hate to replace the compressor, just to not have the issue resolved.... I just moved to TN from MI and my parents visited. The two hour drive to Atlanta GA in 103 degree temps (according to my in car thermometer) was VERY unpleasant, and VERY sticky... Any ideas? I need to tackle this, yesterday.....

If your grandmother never used the A/C then quite possibly all the seals are rotted and it's most likely low in R134a. Running the A/C even during the winter is essential to keep the oils running around so everything keep lubricated. Sounds like you'll have to get it to a good A/C shop to have it properly diagnosed.

I can turn a wrench, and i know A/C is a different world, but im up for the challenge.....

If I were to have bad seals and rings, etc., I dont believe that the system would be reading an overcharge. Would it?

Thanks. I can't answer your question about the overcharge as I take mine in for service whenever it needs it. But to me, "overcharge" doesn't sound good. I know both the high side and low side have to be at certain levels according to the guages so whatever your reading can't be good.

From my expereince it's most likely the clutch cycling switch. It's on top of the accumulator. Unplug it and jumper the wires in the connector. If the compressor comes on then see if the A/c is blowing cold. If somebody has a picture that would be helpful.

I did try to jump that switch yesterday. I went to the auto parts store to buy another gauge just to see if maybe it took all the 134 in and it was just low. After talking to one of the guys there for a little bit, he told me to go to a garage around the corner. The garage is owned by a guy who was a mitsu tech for 16 years and I have gone to him before after failing emissions with my stealth TT for some advice. I decided to take it to him and give him a little more business :-). not that he isnt busy already. SO anyways, after about two hours, they figured out that it was the, I believe high pressure switch? The one that is under the car and by the passenger side front tire. The sensor just barely hangs there by a thread, and it fell off. Plug it in and VOILA!!!! So 47 bucks later, I now know what is actually wrong. Which is a nice feeling. And for the first time in a year, I had A/C. Even if it was just for the ride home (haven't checked it today). The only thing that is frustrating is that I was going to check that sensor next, and being that it was disconnected, I obviously wouldve noticed. But he cut me a deal for just the 47. So, im not mad. BUT I AM COLD WITH MY NEW A/C!!!!
