Default Hub play...

So, had the second screw removed from a front tire yesterday that was causing a slow leak and they tell me my wheel bearings are bad (62K). Yes I could see very slight play in the hub, not much.
How much is allowed?
A. Just enough to tell.
B. None at all.

I am capable and willing to repack the bearings, if it's not more than the normal work - have done this on other vehicles as well. Anyone out there done this on their own. I was given a quote of $432 to replace both front; seems a tad high to me for what shouldn't be more than a couple hours for someone knowing what they are doing.

TiresPlus is where I went; they have a deal on tires right now - buy 2 get 2 when you buy their road hazard (I buy it anyway). The tires were $433 out the door for the Firestone Firehawk GT; but with everything else it hit $1000 (wheel bearings and alignment).

Thoughts?

Wow those are expensive tires! Take it to a good local mechanic for the repair and get some other prices on tires. I just put on four good tires and had an alignment done on my sons Gran Prix for under 385 with tax. I don't know if you have Mavis tires by you but they always have some good deals.
