The last week or so I've been unable to get the gauge to read full when filling up the tank. My 2002 Cruiser has always had difficulty when filling up but I could horse around with the pump and get the gauge to read full. Now I can't. It gets stuck between 3/4 and full. Ironically, I vaguely remember reading a thread somewhere not all that long ago about this very issue. Now for the life of me I can't find the thread. Any help would be appreciated.

What kinds of temps have been outside around where you live? All gas pumps have a auto shut off feature which is activated by the pressure in the tank. If you try filling up when its real hot out the pressure in the tank may trip the gas pump to shut off. I've had this happen once in my Jetta and once in my Caravan.

Thanks for the pressure iinsight. Hadn't thought of that. I'm in Central PA and there's only been a couple of really hot days. My problem has been going on for almost a month. I found the thread for which I had been looking over the weekend and there was a recommendation there about usuing techron to unstick something in the fuel tank. I'm going to give it a shot whenever I have a chance to stop and pick some up somewhere. Hopefully, that will fix it up. Over the weeks it has seemed to get worse - the fuel gauage registers less and less. Saturday it showed just a tad over 3/4 when I'm fairly certain I filled up the tank.
Any more ideas or advice will gratefully be received. |
