Now would be a good time as well as the water pump, tensioner and what ever else it would need.

Welcome to the forum.

We recommend to everyone to replace it at or right before 100K. Along with the timing belt, you want to change the water pump, tensioner for the timing belt the serpentine and alternator belt. It runs anywhere between $800 and $1200 depending on the labor rate of your mechanic and parts prices.

Mind if I ask if these friends have mechanical experience, and not just putting new plugs in. The timing belt change on the PT is 5 to 7 hours of labor, moving the engine to get to certain parts and knowing what your doing. Even experienced mechanics haven't lined things up properly and the owners have come back here asking why there engine isn't running properly.
