Default Overheating

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and what I have read it looks like a good place to be. I have an 05 pt (no turbo) that the temp guage runs just below the red line while on the hiway. When in town the guage comes back down to normal. The only way to run normal temp on hiway is to turn on the heater and the temp will come back to normal with coolant running thru the heater core. I will stop here for now. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I am thinking that its the thermostat. My moms truck had the same problem and the thermostat was bad.

Check the antifreeze, is it rusty colored or any brownish goo under the cap? If so, through flushing and proper type of antifreeze will fix it.
