The cast metal shaft with a slotted/fluted end that fits into a female cast fluted insert embedded into the plastic handle broke off, or at least half of did. Also, the metal female insert cracked in half as well. I am able to recline and adjust the back of the seat using vise grips, so I know there is nothing jamming and causing the break. Appears I can get to this part. Has anyone encountered this problem. Have you been able to buy the replacement shaft and mating metal insert for the handle? Any advice or help is appreciated.
Thanks, |

Thanks, but I did see this post. However, although one reply in the thread mentions my issue (broken metal shaft), the thread seems to address only the broken handle. My issue is the broken shaft and female part that inserts into the handle itself. (handle retaining screw then goes from exterior side of handle into the end of the shaft and pulls the whole thing together. It appears the part number is for the handle itself.

I'll take the seat to the Chrysler dealer and see what they can come up with for part replacement. I expect they will try to sell me the entire ratcheting mechanism.

Actually, you'll be lucky if they don't try to sell you the whole seat.

You're probably right. This is such a detailed part of a larger piece of the seat, I would most likely have to contact the subcontractor that build the seat in the first place...NOT!

PS:
I'll update this post after my trip to the dealer. Might take a few days. |

Dealer wanted $232 for the recliner mechanism and $17 for the handle (female splined piece imbedded in it). No thanks. Purchased enter seat at salvage yard for $75 and extracted the part I needed. I did order a new handle since the donor seat handle spline looked a little weak and I want a good tight fit to avoid excessive wear on the male portion of the donor part. If anyone wants advise on how to swap it out, just let me know.
