I am officially stumped. The other day while driving to work I went to flip on my high beams and instead my headlights turned off. I had experienced this before and it was just a dirty contact in the multifunction switch so obviously that's the first thing I checked. No dice.
Next I switched out the multifunction switch entirely with one that I know works. Again, no dice. Next I switched the headlight relay (inside the fuse panel on the lower left) out with one I know works; no dice. ![]() So here are the symptoms summed up: Low beams work normally. When the high beam switch is triggered the low beams turn off, the high beams don't come on, and the high beam indicator on the dash does not illuminate. I can't imagine that both bulbs went at the same time, and also if the high beam fillaments are blown why are my low beams turning off? The only other thing I can think it might be is a bad ground but why would the low beams and high beams use a different ground? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could check? Thanks! Oh yeah and my car's inspection expires at the end of the month so I have to fix this and fast. |

The '01 you pull the lever backwards but that doesn't matter. I have driven the car for a few years now I don't think I suddenly forgot how to turn on my high beams. Thanks for the reply though.

Could be the multifuction switch.
To troubleshoot this, you need a meter or a 12V test lamp. There are (I Believe) separate fuses for L & R bulbs - turn switch to high beams and check the fuse sockets for 12V, if good, check lamp sockets for 12V... It may point to the switch.
