weird engine part that i don't recognize

Default weird engine part that i don't recognize

I am helping a friend with a repair in his 2.4 2003 engine and when we remove the oil pan i found a big metal box with some gears and a bicicle looking chain
anybody knows what is this and it is name ?
i know it is not the oil pump thank you

Sounds like the previous owner had it off before you and left you some parts that didn't belong. The Haynes manual has quite a detail couple of pages about replacing the oil pan and there's nothing like that in any of the pictures.

you are correct nothing on the manual i also look at the pictures and didn't look like this engine,
but i found some information looks like it is a windage tray with some Balance shafts inside

Those would be the "balance shafts". Alot of the REALLY serious high horsepower guys have removed the chain or the chain and shafts because they naturally produce some parasitic drag. Less drag means more power.
