Default First major problem with my PT

Well my brand new PT just blew the rear main seal at 5500 miles! Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come down the road...

Sorry to hear about that. At least it's under warranty!

Well I got my rear main seal replaced today. Apparently it was just a factory defect in the seal. Still strange, though.

Doesn't seem to be much of a common problem. Maybe your car was "Friday" build. Anyways should be good to go for a long time.

I've worked in the industrial sales, electrical/mechanical, fields for close to 40 years. There is a product rating that is called B10 or L10 life, depends on what company your talking to that basically says 10% of all products manufactured will fail before its intended maximum life has been reached. I've seen everything from a small $2 part to something a company spent over $500,000 for fail on startup or shortly there after. Manufactures know some products will fail, distributors also know as do repair shops. They are just betting that very few will fail and offer a warranty for those that do.

I just hope the plane I'm flying in is a part of the 90% that will do as it's intended.

Actually, a 10% failure rate is ridiculous. Parts are parts. If we can't do any better than 10% failure, then someone needs a swift kick in the pants.
