Default Brake light problem

A few weeks ago my 02 Cruiser was replaced by an 09 Cruizer. As part of the deal the dealer replaced the driverside rear light unit as it was cracked and holding water. The other day it came to my attention that the break light in the new unit didn't work. Everything on the other side works as it should. On the drivers side, the turn signal and the regular light seem to function ok, it's just the brake light on that side. I'm assuming that it worked prior to replacement but I'm not 100% sure about that. I'm also assuming that the bulb is of the type that emits some light when the lights are on and then gets brighter when the brake is applied - a kind of two stage bulb. My plans are to remove the unit to make sure everything is snug. If that doesn't remedy the situation, then I'll replace the problem bulb. Just in case this doesn't work, is there anything else I can try or of which I should be aware?

I would just try another bulb. A smiler thing happened to me when I got my rollpan put on. Everything was working fine except for one of the brake lights. Put a new bulb in and its been fine ever since. Bulbs die, filaments break. The bulbs are dual filaments, one comes on for taillight and the other for the brake light

New bulb did the trick. Had to go to two Walmarts, one Target, and then to Pep Boys, but I got it. Only a buck difference in price.
