Thumbs up NEWCOMER FROM PTENTHUSIASTS

Am new here today - -

Never really was informed as to what happened to PTEnthusiasts.Org,
but was a member there since Day #1.

Original owner of 2001 Limited - - which now just turned 167,000 miles
on the clock as of yesterday.

Has been regularly maintained both in and out of warranties since new -
no major problems or issues.

There was a minor leak in the head gasket at 160,000 miles, and it was a small leak from the inside out - not serious, but all was repaired by the dealer.

Timing belt was due at 120,000 miles - and literally malfunctioned at around
118,000 miles - so my Great Lakes Warranty ended up footing more than half of the bill, which amounted to almost $ 1,000.00, and I paid the remaining
$ 600.00. All work was completed by the dealer.

Coolant has been completely flushed, four times, since new - - and full transmission flush already completed twice - due for another in about
10,000 miles.

Engine does not burn nary a drop of oil - and oil changes completed every
3,000 miles on a religious schedule.

Just replace the front bushings again, for the second time - seems to be an issue with Cruisers - the original control arms are fine.

The rest of the PT is complete as when new - no major issues.

Healey Chrysler in Beacon, New York, has been really great in servicing since the day it was new - - and when the original warranty ran out, I purchase another warranty that was good up to 100,000 miles - which paid for itself.

Then, at 100,000 miles, I purchased the Great Lakes Silver Warranty - which was good for four additional years and unlimited mileage - and this is the warranty that also paid for itself - and which paid for the timing belt.

This is the first vehicle that I have driven past 115,000 miles - - and two of my former vehicles were Honda Civics (1982 and 1993).

Am glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum John.

Yes, PTE and a couple of the other forums went away quite suddenly. I was a member of that and the others almost from the beginning.

Nice write-up on your cruiser. I'm heading your way in mileage. Most of us here recommend the timing belt change at about 100,000 just to be on the safe side.

As far as the front wheel bearings and bushings; it seems that some cruisers can go a long time without ever having to replace either and others have to replace either one or the other more than once. No rime or reason why. I haven't had to service either at over 100K.

Anyway, welcome again to the forum.

I was a member there as well, and the forum still lives, sorta. There doesn't seem to be much action at all but most of the info was added to turbododge.com forums. Your old PTE username and password should work.

But welcome here!

Welcome, John.
Yeah, PTEnthusiasts, PTForums, PTCruiserWorld, PTLovers,... all gone.
I haven't done bushings - I'm only at 90,000+ miles - but if I do it'll be Polyurethane, which I've read far outlast the stock ones.
