Smile IS CRUISER ENGINE REALLY A MITSUBISHI?

I have heard in various places on the net throughout the years, the engine in my 2001 Limited is actually a "clone" of a Mistubishi design.

Can anyone verify this - - as everyone else told me, when the PT was new, that the motor would not last even 100,000 miles before major engine work was required.

So - - knock on a lot of wood - - I now have 167,000 miles and with all of
God's wonderful blessings there has been nary any major engine work, with the exception of the timing belt and minor head gasket work.

Does anyone know the truth about the "clone" Mitsubishi design?

Thanks!

No, that's false. The vehicle that was famous for using a Mitsubishi engine was the 2-door Stratus and perhaps the 2-door Sebring Coupe as well.

its sort of like the neon engine, wich is much older,
the mits engine has a lot of stuff simalr to it, but its not the same,
the mits engine when turboed was preety fast and reliable,
the neon was a losser in the head gasket area,,
our motors have been inproved in the gaskets, and have many revisions to it, that it is diffrent, you got 167 out of the motor, theres no real reason, you cant hit 200k, with normal maintence,
the weakest link in the car is the 4th gear atx does not have a lot of clutches on it, and has a timing belt and not a chain, or my god, gears,
suprised it needed head work,,
good luck, and change those fluids,

I recently bought a 2001 LE from the original owner. The decal below is on the underside of the hood, next to the A/C decal.

Anyone else have this? Does this mean I have a rebuilt engine?

Well I can pretty much say that FORD never made any part (rebuilt of new) of a PT CRUISER, let alone the whole car as that sticker implies. My guess is somebody was just screwing around and pulled it off a ford and stuck it there for fun or it appears its a sticker they put on when a car made in CANADA for CANADA is imported to the US. They are generally the same exact car, but Canada and the US have different rules so rarely there are differences. Its possible your PT was originaly made for the Canadian market and was imported to the US, when imported they didnt have the correct sticker and just used that one so it "had one". Living here on the Border of US to Canada there is some "work" to import a car, more hassle then anything, my guess is it was imported.
