Unhappy PRND LIGHTS are NUTS! $270-$900?

A while back i encountered an intermittent problem where when I would start my car all of the boxes in the "PRND" indicator would be lit up. I never found the issue causing this and now that it is getting cold here in once WARM sunshine state the problem is becoming more apparent. Every morning now I turn the pt over to take off to go to school and the indicator lights are lit up. To fix I have to let car warm completely up then turn key off/ turn back on/ restart until lights go away. The cold is greatly effecting it.
I took it to the dealership here in Gainesville, fl yesterday. They had my car all day and the only thing they could tell me by the end of day was that the vehicle had previously been "Totaled" and who ever put it back together did a horrible job wiring it. The cost to rewire the vehicle correctly would range anywhere from 270-900 maybe more. And hopefully that would fix the issue. What?! I plan to take it to them next wednesday and I know i will lose my ass but I feel as though I have no other choice. I'm very impatient.
What do you guys think? Mechanic thinks its a communication error and the wiring will solve it but surprisingly he couldnt figure it out during the course of the day yesterday..

Me? For that kind of money I'd put up with the lights..... but I would take the floor console apart (takes about 1/2 hour) and see what I can see regarding the shifter, lights and wiring. Could be as simple as a loose connection.

I agree with Crewzin. I'd just leave well enough alone, unless it's affecting driveability somehow.

Electrical problems are very complex and can be extremely difficult to pinpoint. It comes as no surprise to me that they couldn't pinpoint the problem 100% after only 1 day. We often have issues like that for 2 or 3 days in our shop to isolate the problem.
