Question 2006 PT Cruiser Limited please help

Ok so I am looking for some help here at trying to diagnose my car, about 2 weeks ago my battery went dead I thought I had just left a light on or somthing to drain it recharged the battery and everything was working just fine. Now two weeks later driving down the highway and everything shutsdown and locks up, I lost power steering first then the whole engine, when I tried to start it back up it would turn over but never crank, also when I tried puttig it in neutral everything was locked up, I could hardly press the breaks and I nearly had to force the gear to get into neutral, and so we figured the battery had compleatly died, replaced the battery and the car still will not start. My dad looked over everything and is a little baffeled as to what is going on, and as for me I am regretting this vechicle because I have only had for 1 yr, used, it has given us nothing but trouble. If you have any suggestions as to what it might be it would be greatly appreciated if you would share them, and I am going to get codes on them today, as soon as I get them I will post them on the forum. Thanks for any and all help.

Buying a used vehicle, unless you the history is always a gamble.

What is your mileage? You say it won't start after replacing the battery. Does it turn over and not catch or simply won't even turn over?

Does anything light up when you turn the key on?

yes lights do light up, the windows roll down and the radio works, as far as failure lights only the engine light shows up, I took it to autozone and they tested it and they think it might be the timeing belt or possibly gasgets or even the water pump all very expesnive, the car has over 90,000 miles on it, I bought it with 60,000 miles on it, and yes I have learned my lesson with used cars never again. I have had nothing but trouble with this car.

I was thinking the same thing, that's why I asked about the mileage.

First, find out if it is the timing belt. We can only take an educated guess. It it IS, a word of warning; it takes about 5 to 7 hours with an experienced mechanic with the right tools and the right parts. Here's a couple posts on the subject.
