I changed the oil and put a new air filter in my baby 'cause it was dirty. Weird thing, I had to go to 5 stores to find the air filter my car needed, nobody had it in stock, unless I wanted a $50 performance filter . Finally found one (at Target of all places) for $10, good enough for me until I can get a performance air intake installed. Also washed and waxed the Cruiser, then it rained even though there was a 0% chance of rain today

If it was a drop in K&N filter, I'd opt for that over an aftermarket intake. There isn't anything closer to a cold-air intake than the stock airbox is.

Another shot, just finished cleaning them up a bit. Tires had alot of oil on them. Sorry for the crappy quality, extremely low lighting and taken with my camera phone.

Is it really worth it? What kind of performance increase would there be, and can you justify spending $45 every 4 months on the filter? (Yes I have to change it that often, I live surrounded by construction zones so wherever I go there is dirty air, I'm lucky if the air filters last 5k miles around here )

They're guaranteed to last 1 million miles/the life of the vehicle.

You don't replace these 'performance' filters. They breath and filter better than conventional paper filters. The 'performance' improvement might be there, and all from what I explained above but you should not be able to feel it. It's stated that even an increase of 10hp isn't noticeable in the drivers seat.

Anyway, you don't replace them. After every 10k miles (just throwing a number, you can check with K&N website) you clean it and oil it with K&N's cleaning kit. It's only $10-15 bucks which is the cost of a conventional paper filter, however you don't have to clean it as often as you replace those crappy filters....and you always end up with a performance filter in the end.

As for your air filters lasting 5k at most, well that's normal. Under heavy conditions, they should only last about 3k....pretty much changed out at every oil change.

I suggest the K&N, of course it all boils down to personal preference.

I'll have to explore that option next time I shop for a filter then. Thanks for the tip

NP.

Just something taken from their site -

* High Air Flow with Excellent Filtration
* Designed to Increase Horsepower and Acceleration
* Washable and Reusable
* Will NOT Void Vehicle Warranty
* Lasts up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required depending on driving conditions
* K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty®
* Emissions Legal in all 50 US States.
* Economical, a K&N Air Filter Will Last the Life of Your Automobile, Motorcycle, or ATV
* Works with Original Equipment Manufacturer Vehicle Electronics
* Easy High Performance Add-on
* Environmentally Friendly

Don't buy the drop in for 'performance', you won't feel it (it might increase HP but not alot). But you'll certainly have something much better than the cheap coffee filter types.
