Cool Leather Seat Cover Swap???

I am planning on selling/trading the 2006 GT Convertible (The Black Sheep)for a 2010 Couture with the radar red interior. I have grown to dislike the low & reduced trunk space of the convertible)
2006 GT Convertible w/ Mods
I got a good offer for $10K in trade in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The dealer is a big PT dealer in that area (Bonham), and must have 30 PTs in stock.
**Problem is...of the ten or so Cotures, all have grey leather interiors. The dealer says that she can get the red leather in a couple of days to swap out the seat covers.
IS THIS REASONANBLE OR GOOD????
(of course, this also involves the 4 head rests too)

The dealers that I have known that have done that used local people that work on their cars as needed - the ones that I have seen done looked as good if not better than the factory! Of course with it being a new car purchase you should have a warranty that goes with it.

I say go for it.Either way you are getting new upholstery and as mentioned above you still have the same warranty.

Hey their Frank,

I would say you should be good to go. Most Aftermarket Leather should actually be a higher grade material and more than likely better done than the factory so you should come out ahead.

To me, I might even maybe kick around seeing if they might be able to look into doing a two tone where as you have the red as your primary color, and then maybe a black insert which would match the roof, stay cleaner longer, and just look cool and custom. Then you would have the only one like that in the world. That's my two cents thrown into the mix anyways. I wish you all the best as always, and please let me know how it goes should you decide to go for it.

Red face Re: Leather Seat Cover Swap???

Thanks for the input Cruisers!
Whether I go for that options depends on whether I can sell one of the 2 PTs that I already own.

Cool Re: Leather Seat Cover Swap???

The Manager says that they use "Katzkin", and have done literally hundreds of cars with it - with no complaints.

Hey their Frank,

I have used Katskins many times in the past on my Rod projects, and they have some way nice fit and finish big time! They are also by no means cheap for sure!

In fact I believe last time I had gotten somewhat into Katskins Leather, they were something like $500.00 - $600.00 Plus over Mr. Mike.

You already know I will tell you straight up. From my experience, Katskins is very expensive, and very high end big time, and if the Dealer is offering up that much of an upgrade on the Interior, I would say its pretty good.

Not sure what kind of deal they have with Katskins, or anything, but regularly, you would be talking last I messed with would be somewhere roughly in the Ballpark of $1700.00 - $2000.00 and up, and I can tell you Chix, Roger (Fear1PT), Bruce, and Poi all had Katskins.

Anyways, that is my two cents for what its worth. Sounds like a good deal coming from a Cosmetic prospective anywayz.

I'm considering leather interior for my 2010 PT CLASSIC (along with some padding to make the seats more comfortable) Anyone have photos of actual Katskinz installs on the newer edition of the PT?

Cool Re: Leather Seat Cover Swap???

The dealer called me today to be sure about the Katzkin options. When they do aftermarket, you can ger several options at no extra charge.
What I have asked for is red leather; contrasting black stitching; and black piping - if theat cover does have piping oin the edges.

I will post pictures - hopefully next weekend!
