Default idles rough

07 PT GT 22,000 miles. Idles rough when stopped with car in Drive. When I shift to neutral, smooth as can be. Any idea on the rough idle?

When shifted into drive, the tranny opens a fluid path which places a significant load on the motor, whereas in neutral it is freewheeling.

Troubleshooting should concentrate on aspects above idle.

How does she drive otherwise?

I'd vote plugs and wires, too. I bet if in Neutral, you turn on A/C and it'll stumble.

I've had the same issue, new plugs and wires did nothing. I've checked and tye-wrapped all hoses and more; no change. I'm looking at replacing the top engine mount soon (worth a try), hoping - it's really aggravating and can rattle nerves and the hood. As the post, in neutral it's very smooth.

It is not that rough, just not as smooth as nuetral or not as smooth as my wifes Hyundai Azera. Put nothing I cannot live with until I am ready for a tune up.

I changed plug wires & plugs in mine too & I don't think there is any difference either. I think it's just the nature of the beast! It is about as smooth as my Pontiac Sunfire but nowhere as smooth as past Hondas & Mazdas.
