Default spare key

picked up my 2nd (2002) pt and there was only 1 key. bummed me out. went to acehardware to price a clone and lo and behold, it's not a transponder key!
i thought all pt's had a transponder key.
so, for $2.95 i've got a spare. merry christmas to me!

just felt like sharing my good fortune.

merry christmas to all and to all a good night!

shouldn't be too bad. i checked a local locksmith and he quoted me $75 total for the key and programming. not cheap but not even close to what the dealer would charge.

Where did you get your copy?
I'd like to get another copy for mine too, but don't know where to start.
Would they have them on ebay?

I should add that paypal does not work for me, so I hope to find a key, cheap, and not payable via paypal.

i got mine at ace hardware. they had transponder ones for right around $70 which i believe included the programming. check hardware stores in general.

I went to Ace Hdwe and got a plain key, it will unlock, but you have to be quick to shut off the alarm. I have a habit of locking my keys in the car, so as long as I can get in, I can shut the alarm off. This is for a 2008 PT.

Well You got very Luck with yours not having a Transpounder Key. We just purchased ours from a dealer and when we got ours used an 2003 Steel Blue 2.4 Liter Turbo Gt Edition We traded something in for it I maded the dealer purchases an aditional Transponders Key for Us which came to $75.00 from the dealer thats $40.00 for the Key and $35.00 for the Programming.

I googled "transponder" and there were a few sites that sold the blank keys for $19,95 and the remotes for $34.95.

I had a local locksmith program the keys and remotes for $20 each, but you need to get your "secret code" from a Chrysler dealer. You'll need the registration and ID that the car is titled to you.

Alotta hassle, but whatcha gonna do? Mine only came with one key.....

Happy Motoring!

Same here! Ace Hardware. Any good key place should be able to copy it.
I keep it in the slot of my leather key chain/wallet.
Even though it will set off the alarm when I use it.....I will be able to retireve the transponder key quickly.
I can't imagine anyone soooooo optimistic to think that they won't some day lock themselves out....or a guest driver won't do it. (**it happens!)
