Default Heater & A/C does not blow air

My car will no longer blow air from the heater or A/C on any speed. While driving the car and running the heater on high, I noticed a foul burning smell being admitted from the heating vents. I turned the heater off, then attempted to turn it back on but the blower did not initialize. I know that the car is generating heat because I can feel it when driving on the highway, but it is not being blown out. I removed the heater blower motor and tested it by connecting wires to + and - negative connectors in the plug and to the + and - battery terminals which turned the motor on. There forth I believe the issue is being caused by a faulty blower control switch or faulty blower motor resistor. I found the blower motor resistor and the wire plugs going into it do not appear to be burnt but I didn't pull the wire plugs to fully inspect. I could not locate any blown fuses in any panel, including the blower motor fuse in the interior panel. It seems per forum responses that most experienced fault with the heater on certain speeds as a result of a faulty blower motor resistor whereas mine will not work at any speed. Could this be indicating the blower control switch is bad? If so where is the blower control switch located and how is it replaced? If the blower motor resistor may need to be replaced how do I replace it? I'd greatly appreciate any advice anyone can provide.

Thanks in advance,
Kim

The diagram that I posted was from my 01-03 Haynes manual but I also just received the 01-09 Chilton manual which actually is a duplicate of Haynes and it has the exact same diagram.

NOW, after saying that, we know for a fact that in 2004 they changed the Crankshaft sensor from the back of the engine to the front under the starter motor. The new 01-09 Chilton manual still shows the sensor in the back above the oil filter. So you can't believe everything.

I have a 2002 which does not produce heat either. the temperature control does not seem to make a difference, leaving me to believe that the transfer switch or damper (if it has one) does not function..I almost froze on those 40 deg mornings...what say guys..can you-all help? radio4mike@bellsouth.net
