Red face Newbie! and have a question!?

Hello everyone! Just got a 2001 Pt cruiser about 2 weeks ago , seems to be a good car so far and drives smoothly! NOw I have a question , well i just noticed that when I turn on the heater sometimes its warm and sometimes the air coming out is cold and wont warm up unless i turn it off then back on and it doesn't work all the time I was really excited when we first got it cause bought off someone on craigslist and we got a great deal on it but now I'm starting to worry ... could it be the termostat? any Ideas??

Welcome to the Forum, yes, it could be the thermostat. Did you have it checked out by a mechanic or get all of the service paperwork? How many miles are on it, what color?

Kba, run the car up to where it's nice and hot. Make sure the fan has come on a time or two. Then wrap your hand (actually have some guy with thick skin on his hands) around the upper radiator hose. Oops, just touch it first, by the way. Then wrap your fingers around it--lightly, at first. If it's nice and hot, then your thermostat is opening and working. If it's nice and hot, and your temperature gauge registers to almost the halfway mark, then something is plugging up your heater core. If it's just kind of lukewarm or tepid, then your thermostat is stuck open--or missing altogether.
