Post DISMANTLE REAR SEAT

1/11/11 @ 7:52 AM EST

I have two (2) rear passenger seats on my workbench, 1 from my car and 1 from the junkyard. I need to take the seats apart to remove the bad vertical latch in my seat and put in the "good one" from the junkyard.

QUESTION: Before I begin feeling my way in the dark, has anyone else tackled this? Once I get to the mechanism, I'll be fine, but I'd like to know how to begin the process.

Thank you in advance.

Don't know of anyone else having done that, but I'd say to take apart the junkyard seat first to pick up any clues/tips before you tackle your seat.

Thanks. Good idea, though right now, the junkyard one is the one I've been using in the car. I'm trying to swap the mechanisms so I can have my original seat in good working order.

Not that it hasn't been done by someone on the forum but I've never seen anyone talk about it. The only thing I've seen was about a bad release latch that lets the seat fold down. Is that what your fixing?

Here was that thread....

No. It is not the fold down handle. This is latch assembly that locks the seat in an upright position. Push the button down, and the seat folds forward.

Mine doesn't catch. I purchase a junkyard seat and stuck it in there. That latch works. I want to remove the latch from there and put it into my original seat.

That's my problem. I'm looking for the best approach to getting to the latch in the used seat in order to take it out. My initial hesitatin its the pieces of fabric covering the the rear of the seat. I cannot tell if it is velcro'd or glued down.

It seems to me you might be better off with an upholsterer's guide to disassembling the back seat if the fabric is the issue.

So, I'd like to recommend you take a look at MrMike's site. The link has a disassembly guide for taking the fabric off, though you will be on your own as far as replacing the actual switch.
