Question Radiator Fan question..

Hello fellow Pt cruiser owner! I have a 2003 PT base model and I am having some problems with my radiator fan( I think). Here is the deal, I know there is a leak in my radiator(not sure where) so I already bought the new replacement radiator and hoses but we haven't install it yet and now every time i use the PT I/you can hear the fan belt sqeaking or something, it sounds like its wet..My question is is it safe to use it for now?its not over heating and i can add the antifreeze no problems but i'm concerned about the sound.I'm worried that i will damage it more than what it is now if the fan belt does slip. thanks in advance..I forgot to add it only has 79,000 miles...

vikz, welcome to the forum.

Your fan belt isn't slipping because you don't have a fan belt. It's electric. The serpentine belt has a tensioner so the only belt that might be slipping and causing a squealing noise is the alternator belt. If that belt is making the noise you can probably get away with it for awhile if yo can put up with the embarrassment of the squealing. The alternator might not be putting out what it should because of the slipping so it might affect your battery.

Try tracking down the noise and find out exactly what it is.

I also have a fan issue.
I have a 2002 pt

I just had a new radiator and thermostat installed.
If I run the car with the A/C on, the engine fan comes on and there's no problem.
If I run the car WITHOUT RUNNING THE A/C, the fan NEVER COMES ON and the
Car overheats.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Loulou

Possibly a problem with Engine Temperature Coolant (ETC) sensor.

Is there a way to replace it, or check to see if the ECT is bad?

Sure there's a way to replace anything. What might be a simpler way is to have the PT hooked up to an OBDII scanner. That can check everything from computer to relays and most sensors to see if they are working or not.

OK great. Now where can I get one of those scanners?
How much are they?
Better yet, who would have one?
My mechanic?

Thanks.

Yes, your mechanic if he's in the business, he should have one and it can test out almost everything on the engine. Lot cheaper to pay him an hour then to go out and buy one yourself.

If he hooks up the OBD II scanner what error message should he get?

What if he gets no error code? Does that mean the ECT is not the problem?
