Default 2002 PT Cruiser manual shifter cable

Hello,

I have a friend who has an 02 PT Cruiser. He had a shop look at it and they want to charge him 400+ dollars to replace the shifter cable. I've been reading online that there are aftermarket alternatives to replacing the entire cable. Does anyone have links to such and is there any how tos on how to do this?

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, I'll post the same question there. Hehehe, I've only had Hondas and Subarus. Had to get rid of the Subaru so now I only have a Honda and a Mazda. Two of my friends have the Neon SRT 4 and Caliber SRT4 though.

Unless the vehicle's used for competition, where the shifter is slammed to reduce ET's, 99.9% of the time it's only the bushings. Contact Jeff Ball @
Booger bushings. EZ, inexpensive and WAY better than stock.

Booger Racing

Otherwise, you could buy a set of cables from ma-Mopar:

Or get some 'Kyle ends' if plastic cable end is broken:
(Please excuse our course Neon-owner language)

"Kyle Ends" with or Without Cables

Or fit something in from the hardware store.

Thanks for the great info and links.

The Honda has served me right, it's a 99 Civic Si, so it has the DOHC engine vice the smaller Civic engine. I've kept it stock since the wife drives it and besides regular maintenance it has been good to us. Me on the other hand, I started with a 93 Civic that I boosted to 15lbs, then got a WRX, then traded that in for an STI. Sold that and bought a Forester with a 30R turbo putting down 300AWHP, but had to sell it in order to buy a house and had to get a cheap daily driver Mazda

I machined some solid bushings out of aluminum, really has positive shifting now. I think everybody should replace them proactively as my wife was stranded twice and cost me two tow bills.

Heh, probably easier to replace the bushings. After 30+ years it would probably kill me to break in a new one!
