Default Smell mystery...

Hi all,
A few weeks ago, after having my '02 PT jumped after having left the lights on and letting is sit a few days, it overheated after about 45 minutes of idling. I looked under the hood and the coolant reservoir cap had popped open and it was letting out the coolant. I had overfilled it a couple of months prior, if that had anything to do with it. There was also a hot, sweet, plasticky sort of smell that was very pungent.
Anyway, I took it to the mechanic, and he said he couldn't find any coolant leaks. He flushed the coolant, and I also had him do a tune up, replaced the timing belt, water pump, serp belts, etc.
Now, once my vehicle heats up (say, after 10 or 15 minutes), I can smell that hot sweet plasticky smell again. It's not constant, but now and then I get a good whiff. Is this coolant? I never thought coolant would have a plastic-like odor, though, that's my concern. If it's coolant, since it's so cold here and I spilled so much, I figured it is probably hanging around under the hood and burning off when it gets hot.
Anyone else had a similar issue with their PT, or perhaps could shed some light on this?

It could be the leftover residue from where the coolant leaked down onto the motor. If so it will go away.Maybe not the problem but a possibility.
