Default Differences between base model, touring, and LE

Well, my PT Cruiser purchase has been delayed by the huge ice storm we have been experiencing for the past two days, which is giving me a little more time (than I need) to think...

Just wondering, is there a difference in quality under the hood between the base model and the more expensive models, or are the differences pretty much cosmetic... things like stereo, heated seats, etc.

Also, is the base model engine on the '06 and above a little faster than the base model engine on the earlier models? Seemed to me that the '06 (no turbo) I test drove had a little more oomph than the older ones (no turbo) I test drove.

Thanks - this forum is pretty cool.

im no expert but im pretty sure all 2.4 motors are the same as far as performance

also as far as quality most agree that the 2000-2005
were maybe a little nice inside i know Chrysler started cutting things after the 06 model change which was the only major change( little things like no drawer under the pass seat no key lock on passenger door

as far as quality that are all pretty much the same

the turbo with a 5 speed was just a lot more fun to play with

so pretty much they are a lot alike

All of the models from base to Limited use the same engine. The only difference would be the turbo models.

Correct.

Big difference is auto trans - after '04 they took out 2 clutch plates for non-turbos, turbos still have 4 clutch plates - it doesn't help for longevity.
