well ill take a stab at it

First off if it is running that bad it has to be throwing a code
you need to find that code and see what is really happing
do the key dance or hook it up to a scanner you have to have the code
and it could just be a misfire in #???? but you have to start someplace

a bent valve is going to make some noise
a burnt valve will just not let the cylinder fire again how many miles on motor

2001 is a starting point but we need how many miles???
what have you done to the car-- ie wires plugs can sensor timming belt etc

lots of questions need more info to give a good guess

I understand you were trying to get help and attention but dude typing in all cap's is not the way

get some info and some one will jump in

Well, if my car coulda had (possibly) a bad cylinder, I'd be a little excited too-
Lets not eat our young, guys.

You are using the appropriate troubleshooting steps.
Please ask your mechanic why he believes it has valve problems.
Usually they do a compression test- If not, ask him to complete one, or go to Sears, get a compression tester and DIY.
Unless you have a kuhl mechanic, it's cheaper to buy the tools

ditto what everyone above me said...

If you've dropped a valve, you'll know it. It will sound like you're running on gravel instead of gas. Also your engine would not last very long if you have a piece of the valve on top of the piston.

You can be running down a cylinder, that doesn't mean you dusted your valves. You can pop a valve spring and it'll still run, but you'll still have lots and lots of excess noise. You can always get you one of those mega screwdrivers, really long one, hold the metal tip to the valve cover and the plastic handle to your ear, works great as an auto stethascope, will let you hear more clearly what's happening internally. I have a steth just for troubleshooting, bit old school but then I am an olde farte.

Mark your plug wires then pull them off. Do a resistance test on each, just end to end with an ohmmeter. You can buy a cheap one at Radio Shack or Target for $6. I have several of what I call my disposables laying around, bought off ebay from China for $1 each. Always keep one around but always crushing them cause I forget they're there. All your plug wires should be within 500 ohms impedance each, if one is way off, then replace all 4. I personally suggest replacing them anyway if they are factory wires as the factory wires are a POS.

Have you tried pulling any other wire off other than 1? Just curious if you've done that and if the engine started bogging down.

Next, do a compression test. Takes about 10 minutes to perform, 15 if you are slow. This will tell you more than anything. Do that and let us know the results.

BUT, actually back to Cruiserdad's post - you need to find out what codes you're throwing. If you dropped a valve you should have a lot of indications of that.
