Can you replace the actual tie rod? Not the ends, the actual rod itself.

Got an 09 PT Cruiser that was struck on the driver tire that bent the tie rod.

Basically the rod that you attach the outer tie rod end onto, it has the treads on it for alignment adjustments etc.

Can you change that rod on it's own?

Welcome to the forums.
Why wouldn't you be able to? Of course, you'd need an alignment after...

Its not attached the steering rack in way that you can't change it without removing the rack? I guess when you think about it, you can change inner and outer tie rods ends so that you have to mean the rod in the middle at some point can be totally removed.

Is this a part shared with neons?

Look it up inner tie rod @ Rockauto.com

There are special inner tie rod sockets that reach in far enough to R&R w/o rack removal

Last some one asked (search) they hadn't listed an inner tie rod for late models, not that they aren't made, just that there's not enough demand yet to bother listing- if that makes sense.

The dealer has never listed that part separately, unless things have changed.

Actually I just came back here to post that I believe that rod and where it attaches to the rack is probably what is called the inner tie rod.

I got a couple more places to call.
