Default What the hell is this thing?

ok so i'm starting to think about Eve's interior. I'm gonna change some of the colors inside the cabin and also up grade the stereo. I was looking at one of the sticky's in the sound and security forum and came across this pic that Crewzin posted.

when i was trying to get wires from the cabin to the battery, i tried drilling through this thing, but i couldn't cuz it's metal. I'm just wondering, what is it's purpose and do i need it? I have so many wires going through hood release grommet right now i don't think an amp power wire would fit.

You drive an automatic, that's why it's there

And yes you can drill through it. I almost got rid of it cause I was going to use 0-gauge wire but instead I went with 2-gauge for my system. If you're going to drill through it, unbolt+remove it and put it on a good vice grip. With a good 18v drill and step drill, you'll easily drill through it.

It's for the clutch rod (?) to go thru. It is a bitch to reinstall, takes 2 people. I used my drill press (small) after I clamped it to the table to drill thru it.

Yea it's where the clutch pedal would go. I took mine off to drill for the wires to my fog lights. Then sealed the hole with silicon to protect the wires from rubbing against the sharp edge of the hole. Silicon also prevents odors from coming into the passenger compartment.

that's a good idea. When i was trying to get the wires from the battery to the cabin, i was thinking about just taking it off. The silicon thing sounds good tho.

Yea unless you are putting a lot of wires or a couple very thick gauge wires, it would be better to drill a hole through it then seal with silicon. The hole is large if you just take it off.

yeah the rubber grommet came off already when i was pushing some wires thru for some lights and the e-charger. the hole there is pretty big but i'll cross that bridge when i get to it. hopefully i can take her show one of these days when she's all done.
