Default Oil Comsumption

I recently purchased a '07 Touring sedan/ Wagon (non convertible) and was reading somewhere that the PT was known for it's oil comsumption... amost a quart between 3000 miles oil changes..

I read where it's happened on cars that are brand new, and continues in cars that have 200K+ on the clock. It seems to me that if a new car is using a quart of oil between changes then somethng is wrong somewhere.

I plan on keeping an eye on all the fluids, just as I would with any vehicle. I'm asking more for curiosity sake than any other reason. I can deal with a car that uses oil, it's just easier if I know to expect it.

Is this true? Was this something that happened to the early models, and then it got fixed? Is this just crap that someone is putting out, trying to bash these great lil cars?

Exco

Some owners have reported excess oil consumption and when reported to the dealer they were told it was normal. Not sure how they get away with that. I can tell you that most owners, including myself, don't use any oil between changes and I for one go 5,000 between changes with Mobil 1.

Do you mean like this post that someone could misconstrue (even from the title alone) that our cruisers use exhorbitant amounts of oil?

I haven't added a drop of oil in the seven years that I've owned the PT and I drive it HARD.
I also go 5000 between changes.

I don't use any noticeable oil between 3-4k oil changes.

My wife and I have 2 PT's now and I had another in the past and none of them have used oil between oil changes.

I've had mine for several years, '06 PT GT vert, and never had to add oil. I do get a bit, well used to, in the intake through the make-up air connection to the crankcase. That's because I drive it like I stole it, but never have been low. The rumor is just that, a rumor.

Excoastie, if all that doesn't convince you, I'm not sure what will.

Before I bought my 03 Limited, I also noticed this problem from my google research. It seems that most complaints came from very early years models. Mine does not have this problem.

As I said, no problem here at 108,000 miles and it has a born on date of Aug 2000. There were a bunch of cruisers before mine that were the first off the assembly line. You can tell them apart from the next cruisers because they had only 2 window switches on the center dash.
