Default spare tire missing

I picked up my PT yesterday afternoon! That is the good news.

The bad news, is the sensor that I waited 3 days for them to replace, didn't fix the problem of the airbag light going on when I've got someone sitting in the passenger seat. I guess I'll be calling 'em back and bringing the car back in. I'm due to go out of town for work today, and will be gone for a day or two, so I guess it'll wait until I return. *sigh*

I also noticed that my Lil Belle is missing both a spare tire and a jack. So I guess before I get called to go to work, I'll be checking out the local salvage yards to see if I can find one of each. I'm sure I can find some sort of scissor jack, but I'm hoping I can find an OEM one, and if I can't there is always eBay! I have a question about the spare...

Is the spare just your typical donut type of thing? Is there a trick to getting it up under the cage, or getting it out from in the cage? I didn't look very hard when I noticed that it was missing last night, so please forgive me if I'm asking extremely stupid questions here.

thanks

what is the rim size on the donut spare? I'm assuming it's either 14" or more likely 15". I've read on here that a full sized tire won't fit in the cage.... I've got 16s on the car now.

I've got a donut on my Ram that is a 17", but my "regular" wheels and tires are 20s...

just wondering, as it looks like I can snag a donut from a '94+ Neon at the salvage yard, as they've got the same lug pattern

Wow ... did the shop steal it? Happened to me on an 380SL, spare alloy and tire gone when it got back from the shop.

I can answer it is not hard to remove, the lugwrench doubles as the driver to loosen the bolt that drops the cage the spare sits in. It's the same spare on my 06 which came with 15" steelies and my kids 01 LE that has the 16" chrome 5 spokes. I hope someone else can answer the Neon spare question.

Welcome ..... from the other end of the state!

I found a 14" donut spare off of a newish Neon that was wrecked, in the local salvage yard. I'm not sure if it's correct or not (though it did fit up underneath).

I also found a jack that I think will work, that came out of what looked like a Plymouth Breeze/ Dodge Stratus. It's a scissor jack, it fits in the storage space, and the "tire tool" section fits both the lug nuts and the cage jack nut.

I think this all cost me about $25, so if it doesn't fit, I'm not out of much.

When I have some time and initiative I'll jack up the car and test fit everything, and hope that it fits. In the mean time I have the travel club to help me out if I get into a bind.

Spare is 15"x4" rim, 125 (something) 15".
Early PT's used an ALUMINUM spare, and lightweight jack.
Very sought after by the likes of Uptown.

Bad news: 14" WON'T fit over front caliper

Good news: Old C-van uses exactly same tire, wheel except it's steel.
$6 at local JY

Scissor jack you've found'll work fine.

OK thanks Uptown.

I guess I'll head back out to the salvage yard... see if I can find a scrapped out C-van (at least a damn icky van will be good for something LOL) Though it might have to wait until I get back in town... looks like I'll be going to work soon... working on call sucks sometimes!

Note, C-van's changed bolt pattern.
Newer one's are larger than PT.

There's ton's of 15", just make sure it fit's the Neon 5-bolt pattern.

Ton's of c-vans and other Mopar's in JY, you won't have a problem finding it!

But if you get in a bind, Just do like I have to with my Beetle with the larger than stock front brakes .... put the spare on the rear and the rear to the front flat tire .... it will get you home, and I would rather have the regular size tire up front on a FWD anyway when having to use a skinny spare.

Thanks for the help everyone. I got a spare that fits.

125/75/15 temp with the correct bolt pattern.

They had a wrecked (or I should say trashed) PT that still had most of it's front axle in tact, so I was able to compare. I found the wheel/ tire in the trunk of a Plymouth Breeze, it wasn't in as good of shape as the 14 that I found earlier, but it'll get the job done in a pinch.

Well Done!

I used to rat the NOLA area junkyards as a teen .... learned a lot about older cars .... some still had flathead engines, marveled at "I wonder what hit that" often, and solved the cause of some of the accidents .... one was a mid 70's Camero .... running two temp spares as cutter tires on the front .... I guess they did not read the Do Not Exceed 45MPH warning on them, and totalled the car.
