Default Oil Capacity for 2.4

Hey there,

I did an oil change for our PT and the capacity for our 2.4 is 5 quarts, per the Chrysler Manual. I filled it with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and the dipstick shows that it is about a 1/2 quart low. Just checking to see if any of you have to place 5.5 quarts in their 2.4. I did let it drain for several hours as we had to take the kids to a soccer game.

Thanks and have a good one!

Not sure why it's not showing full. It takes 5 quarts with filter and I always just use the 5 qt container of Mobil 1 from Wal-Mart and it shows full when done.

Yeah, that's what I do each time, plus purchased it from the same retailer. Perhaps I received a five quart container that didn't quite have five quarts in it. Oh well, I don't have oil leaking anywhere and the jug is empty. I'll just top it off where it should be. Next time, I'll check the container before I empty it.

Thanks for your help and happy Easter!

when you checked the dip stick, did you run the car or what it right after you put in the oil?

Hey there,

Yes, I ran the car for a couple of minutes, then it sat for a day as we were in our other vehicle. When I checked it today, it still showed that it was low.

I couldn't remember if it took more than five quarts as this one only gets changed every six months, due to low usage. I checked my service manuals and it showed five quarts, but obviously, that didn't quite add up this weekend. I'm putting my money on a less than full jug from Wal-Mart.

i didn't know that the big jugs came in 5qts, i always thought they were 4qts and then you'd have to buy an extra quart.

Lean something new everyday Danny. Been buying Mobil 1 in 5 Qt containers for at least 3 years now.
