Default Penelope did GREAT!

I just got back from a road trip. Penelope drove 900 miles, up to 5500 feet and back down, through the entire Mojave desert, and performed like a trouper.

Interesting, up in the altitude/dry weather, the brakes did not make that sound. Maybe it's moisture! I live right by the beach!

I'm so proud of the old girl...

I know what you mean.I just did about 1500 miles round trip from SC to Ohio and back in mine.Lots of mountain driving and she handled it well.Best of all,I averaged 26.4 mpg over the whole trip. Not bad for an automatic.

Is the noise just for the first few times braking, or does it always do it???
If it goes away, then it is caused by the surface rust that forms on the brake rotors overnight. The first few stops scrapes the rust off.

Yeah, it's only the first few times I brake. And I live 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean, so I do think it has to do with moisture. I thought I heard it again today (a week after coming back). So either driving 1000 miles at 70 miles an hour blew out whatever the problem was or it was due to the drier climate.
