Default First Sortie

Took my new to me 06 PT Convertible on a ride this weekend to visit the folks for mothers day

Anyhow I was quite impressed, I bought the car but didnt drive it until this week after doing a bunch of rust proofing and fluid changes and wires and plugs etc

It only has 4443 miles.

Anyhow it was only a highway trip. Did 65-75sh on the way down 175 miles and got 25 mpg, on way back got 29 and 27 mpg for the trip. This was calculated miles by gallons used so I am quite pleased. It may be better or as good as the GT 5 speeds we have. It also wasnt too bad to drive, havent driven a non turbo auto car in 20+ years but it went Ok. Now I have to finish getting the cruise control wired up.

Here are a few pics, 1 from underneath after a coat rust encapsualtor and 2 coats chasis black. On top of that I sprayed some Hevi Duty antirust ,waxy coating. Also flooded all the subframes with Fluid Film. I have to do the doors, hatch hood and behind the rear tail lamps with the fluid film.

Got any topless photos??

What is Fluid Film? I mean I'm gonna google it, but be nice to hear from someone who is familiar with it. That undercarriage is beautiful, would love to get mine that clean.

Go to Eastwoods.com and go to their rustproofing. They have some nice rust converter, rust encapsulator and epoxy chasis black. You can buy in the aerosol or qts. I get a couple qts of each and a few cans. They also have a liquid Hevi duty anti rust which comes in aerosol. This is a waxy film which works well underneath to seal everything.

Whenever I get a new car or used the first thing I do is wash the underside to get all the grease and dirt off. Then paint the rust converter on any surface rust. Then paint everything with the Rust encapsualtor and then two coats of chasis black.

Lastly I spray the hevi duty anti rust on everything underneath. Takes about 5 cans. I also yanked the inner splash shields in the wheel wells and clean all the sand and dirt out. Then painted everything behind them.

The fluid film is a lanolin based film. It is liquidy snot for lack of a better term, sticks to everything. I spray that in all the subrframes. It runs down into everything. I also spray it in the bottom of the doors, will prevent rust in seem. Also the hatch and hood nooks and crannies. You can flood the rockers by pulling the trim under the doors and on the convertibles the plugs on the rockers.

Oh Eastwoods also has some ceramic high temp paint for manifolds. I slap a coat on the exhaust to dress it up and keep the surface rust off.

Well go buy some paint and some favorite beer and have at it.

Kind of miserable job but not difficult.

VNT - I saw the pictures when you were doing that, not for the novice. Took me 4 hours to do raggtop kit and 10 hours for wash, clay, glaze compound, polish, and wax. And I'm still buffing windows. Keep posting cause I am learning. I am going to try flushing the radiator {One of your post} after I get the leather and window trim done.
