Cool Re: best ride and look of wheels and tire

Take my advice after going through this twice.
For a good ride and less damage on rough roads....
Stick with the OEM tire size.
Upgrade the wheel - yes!

Not good roads .... you must live near me!

I never go below 45's, I have Kuhmo AST's 225/45/17's on 17" wheels. I think they are 6.5 inches wide? The ride is good, the grip is better and the stance is AweSome!

Before these I was sporting the stock 15" steelies ... 195/60/15 I believe and I really wanted the 16" chrome fat 5 spokes like the stock ones on my kids car, but 16" tires are not as available in as many different types and often more expensive than the 17's. And those non dimple 16" fat 5's are really hard to find a good set of 4 .... took me months to get 2 to replace a dechroming one and a bent one on the kids car.

yeah, for the best ride go with 15". The bigger wheel size you go up the less air pocket you have to help asborb potholes.

Plus when you do hit a pot hole your much less likely to bend/brake something like the wheels.

I had 17's on my car for two years. I just went -2 to 15" white walls, and the ride improvement is amazing!!! This was the best thing I have done to my PT for both the ride and appearance!!! I couldn't be happier...

I agree with Petey (and drool over his PT), taller tire, softer ride, less impact feel from bad bumps. I have good roads so am on a nearly low profile.

I have the similiar problem with roads. I put 225/50/16 Toyo Proxes 4 tires on 16 x 7 American Eagle 192 rims and I am very happy with that combo.
