Default Replacing Cruise Control stalk

Hello everyone, 01 PTC owner here, and my first post. Love the site by the way, very helpful. Now on to the question. The other day while in a hurry I didn't check to make sure the cruise control stalk was up out of the way and yanked it out with my knee when I got out of the car(I'm on the tall side).
My question is, anyone have a link to a walk through on getting to it, or can describe the process to me? I could probably figure it out on my own if I had to, but since I'm waiting on the part to come in, and I'm sure someone here has replaced one, or gotten to it while doing something else before, I figured I'd ask.

Thanks in advance!
Robert

Robert, Welcome to the forum. On the top of the Tech & Performance section there's a sticky thread entitled "HOW TO". When you open that, there's about 20 different threads to tell you how to do ALMOST everything. Here's one of them that tells you how to fix the other stalk which is the Multifunction Stalk but it also has instructions on how to get into the steering column. From there it should be pretty easy to get to the stalk that you need.

How to Repair the Multifunction Switch w/ Pictures (Fog Lights)

Actually the process for removing the cruise control stalk is much easier than the MFS. There is an entire section, all three pages of it, in the OEM service manual showing detailed steps for removal. One screw does it all, but you have to remove the air bag from the steering wheel and that my friend is the not so fun part. Make darned sure your battery is disconnected before taking this on, or you may just get a face full of airbag while trying to fix this.

I'll PM you some notes, easier than trying to post them here....

Thanks for the replies.

Crewzin: Thanks for the link, I actually used that last year when I had to replace the MFS, and it was a great help. But since it didn't say anything specific about the cruise control I wanted to ask first before I went poking around since the cruise control is much closer to the airbag.

Chromenut: Thanks, I got your PM and sent you a response

Is the procedure for the 2006+ models the same to remove the air bag?

the linked thread with the pic is closed, and this one is the first result on google

mine has a bad contact on the interior light dimmer.

You shouldn't have to mess with airbag for multi-function switch (which has the dimmer) at least on pre-06 models you didn't have to - I replaced one in about 15 minutes.
The airbag discussion was about the cruise stalk.
