Default 2002 Engine blown

My wife's 2002 Pt blew the engine. It has 155,000 on it. I want to replace it but need some advie.
I began searching for an engine and was told that only the 2001 and 2002 would fit. If I was to do a complete engine, Tranny and axle swap, could I go to a newer Year?

I haven't found too many 2001/2002 engines and would like to expand the search.

Are there any good places to search?

A newer year wont work. The biggest problem is the crankshaft has a different number of teeth on the tone wheel for the crank sensor. The cam magnet and sensor is different also. They did this along with changing the engine controllers. So you would need a complete wiring harness and PCM and weather a used PCM would work with your SKIM module (if equipped) or not, who knows. Find an 01 or 02 or have yours rebuilt.

I've seen a guy putting a 07 engine on a 03 and I've seen another put a 95 Stratus engine on a 02 Pt cruiser....but never seen and 03 and up on a 01-02
You should ask this question on ptcrew.com...those guys should now

BTW here is a link of the 03 with 07 engine....You'll need to sign up to ptcrew in order to see it.
