Default fuel regulator changed-car died

Brought my car in for a detail service and the engine light was on. It's been on for awhile. Shop said they diagnosed it and replaced the fuel gauge regulator. Didn't ask them to do that tho. Was driving home the day I picked it up and it just died while I was driving it. The car has a remote start so I thought it might have something to do with that. The battery is fine, can start the car under the hood but wonder if anyone has an idea what might be going on. The PT ran fine prior to bringing it to the shop.

Did they charged you to change it ? Because I believe it's part of the fuel pump and you'll need to drop the fuel tank to change it. So, to me its sounds like a scam...unless they changed the fuel pump assy
