Default mistake?

first of all im new here and just bought a 04 pt cruiser to replace my rusted out 98 ford windstar van for a work car...the car has 115k on it...it runs smooth and quite..the steering's nice and tight..rides pretty well..i really like the car but the damn check engine light keeps coming on...i had it scanned and it came up air intake temperature sensor...so i replaced it with one i bought at auto zone..then i disconnected the battery for a few minutes to clear the code out...for some reason or another this sensor doesnt lock into the connector like the old one did and the check engine light came on again...this time the code came up..voltage to high for the air temperature sensor..could it be that the connectors not making a full contact?
