Default Drive Belt Splash Guard

As I was leaving to run some errands this weekend, the sun caught something shiny under the PT and upon further review, I noticed that the drive belt and what appears to be the tensioner were visible under the passenger side front fender. I reviewed the Haynes manual I have which does not show a Pre-2006 model in their photos and indicates there should be a Drive Belt Splash Guard in place. I have not noticed that I could see the belt before, but I would not swear that there was or was not a guard in place before. I also could not see where the guard would attach if there as supposed to be one there. It was at the dealer two weeks ago for the vibration tests and nothing was said about it, so either it was left there or fell off during an outing over the last two weeks.

I attempted to take some photos to show, and with the ground clearance, they are not that great, but convey the idea. Can anyone confirm that the guard is indeed supposed to be in place?

Thanks!

Thank you, Xtrm; that is what I suspected, but wanted to verify.

Thanks!

Yes it's missing, and I think you would have noticed if that came off while driving, it's a fairly good size piece of plastic...

i totally agree. and it's a b*tch trying to get tho's plastic rivets off. It's even harder to put them back on. The splash gaurd is like hard plastic too.

Hard to imagine that it just happened to fall off as it is a bit of a pain to get it off (and on). My guess is that it was removed intentionally at some point and never reinstalled.

I got those "attachment plugs" at Auto Zone for $3.50. They were made by Dorman and come 15 to the box. They say on the lable that they fit Chrysler, Ford, and GM. They fit perfectly and are far cheaper than at the dealer!

So don't worry about pulling and saving those olld plugs. They get too bunged up trying to pull them without screwing them up. So just yank them with your pliers and install new ones for cheap.

Concerning the splash guard, some mechanic didn't put it back on, or someone stole it. I'd get a new one to keep water and dirt off your belts.

That's awesome, i've been looking into some more rivets. When i changed my high beams i had to pull the splash guard back on both sides so i can reach them. When i tried to use the old rivets i couldn't get them in there good enough.
