Default Oil coming out of tailpipe

I have a 2007 PT Cruiser. It is now leaking oil out of the tail pipe. Are there any recalls on this and what could be the problem. How much would it be to fix it.

Any help would be great! Is this a bad problem? I only have a 58k on this car.

There are no recalls for something like that. If you Google "oil out the tail pipe" you'll find a dozen answers and most aren't good. Overfilling the oil pan or maybe a bad ring or two. The big question is: Are you sure it's oil. Condensation mixed with the soot in the tailpipe will definitely look like oil. If you aren't running bad or smoking out the tailpipe, it might not be oil.

Thanks, it is running bad so it is most likely oil.

As Crewzin said, It could be many things. First of all, what kind of PT is it (base, limited, turbo, standard, auto?) It could be bad rings on the pistons, valve guides or valve seals, head gasket, etc. A few thing to look for would be: have you been having to add oil because its low?, does it constantly smoke when running? Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? was the oil ever over filled?, have you owned it since new? If used, did you get any maintenance records with it? Any or all of this info would help. For starters I would pull the plugs and take a look at them, they will give you a clue as to what the engine is doing. Post some pics if you can of them.

Cheers!

All as said above-

To get oil out of tailpipe you'd need an immense amount of oil, muffler acts as a 'trap', has a lot of volume. I'd have no idea how raw oil and the cat would interact.

Your car would likely blowing the blues, big time.

Perhaps it's running really rich?
