This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

•A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
•A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
•Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system
A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

With a p0455, the most common repair is to:

•Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
•Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
•Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Thanks for the reply! I will fess up that I put a new locking cap on a week ago but have not had the code until yesterday. I put the old cap back on, but my scangauge would not clear the light so I figured the cap was not the problem.

That's one of the codes where the engine has to be started a number of times and if the fault (loose cap) isn't detected, the light goes out by itself. My wife's old KIA took 2 days before the light went out.

Question Re: PO455 code

Nitram01, I pulled that code once and the reason was I topped off my tank
and overfilled it. Apparently thats a no no! The dealer looked at it and got the
light to go off, but said not to top off the tank again....It must have fed back
into the vapor canister. Soooo as the little boy said, "I didn't do that another
gin!"

when my '05 was new, I got that code - the dealer had installed a locking gas cap when I bought it, but they said the problem was a leak in the gas tank and replaced it.

A few months later, the code came back - got it cleared at the local auto parts store. the kid said "we're not supposed to do this" - then he did.

The code appeared again after a few more months, so I went back to the dealer -- and they replaced it with a non-locking cap - no problem since 2006.
