Default Auto rear transmission inspection hatch leak

Took the cruiser in for an oil change... shop guys said there was a hatch over the tranny pan that had some dribbles... they mentioned seeing excess RTV... is there a gasket or something that should be in there ? anyone know if that area is under pressure or is it safe for them to pull and troubleshoot ?

thanks

I have zero idea about auto's, since no one else is answer I'll tell you what I *Think* it is.

Sounds like the differential cover is leaking. There's really no reason to ever remove this cover, parts inside don't need any servicing.

I don't believe, again, that it takes a gasket, factory specifies RTV. There's none listed at RockAuto.com.
The Factory Parts manual doesn't list a gasket, either.

Go to the tech & performance forum, there's a thread 'stickied' at very top, download your year Factory Parts Manual (They're all about the same for this part, so exact year macht nichts) and see if you can identify the part.

You can also contact threads Author, Chromenut for a Factory Service manual, it will tell you exactly what to do when removing this part, and what to use for sealer. You can also google: 'PT Cruiser Factory Service manual Download' and get it yourself directly. Again, doesn't much matter if it's an '01 or a '10 for that part.

If it were mine, I'd:
a. Wonder why the part had been removed.
b. Remove the part, clean & dry, and replace cover with silicone as a sealer.
Inspect cover for straightness during procedure.
