Default Recommended Mobil 1 New Life for PT?

Hi all,

I normally use a Fully Synthetic 5w-30 in my 2004 PT (Non Turbo).

A mechanic has suggested that for the cold weather I may benefit from 0w oil.
I was in Costco earlier and they had Mobil 1 New Life 0W-40 on offer... Chrysler's aren't listed as a suitable engine, but wondering if anyone had an opinion as to whether it would be suitable / beneficial?

Thanks,
Steve

How cold does it get, are you in the Arctic?

Regardless, Mobil One 5/30 is perfect @ 0 degrees F or above. The engine was designed to use that weight. Using a lighter weight oil might actually damage your engine.

0w-40 is fine if you can get a deal on it.

It probably has a lower pour point vs the 5w rating and will be heavier grade at 100C

You would need to look at the data sheet for the viscosity at 40 and 100 C , pour points and CCS (Cold crank simulator) specs.

In general a 0w-xx is alays better than 5w-xx as far as fluidity at low temperatures, it has to be to meet the 0w spec.

Isn't the reason that we use synthetic oil in the first place is coating that stays on the parts after shut off or not running the motor for a while? So unless it is 50 below zero and at that temp you shouldn't be out anyway Why would you need 0-XX ?

0 weight oils? - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Notice the 0W has lower viscosity at -35C, which means it will have better pumpability at low temps vs a 5w-xx or 10W-xx viscosity,
