Default Pentastar V6 in a PT?

Does anyone know if the Pentastar V6 will fit in the engine bay of a PT Cruiser?

I have a 2008 PT Cruiser that is crying out for one. It doesn't want to be modified (body changed) to accomodate the fit.

I figured since it fits in a Dodge Avenger/Chrysler 200 along with the 2.4L 4 cyl, why shouldn't it fit the PT?

I tried searching the forum and could not find this same question.

Ever since I drove a 2012 Durango with the Pentastar V6 and got 27 mpg on the highway with 5 adult males in the vehicle, I was very impressed with the engine performance and fuel economy.

If it will fit, I am going to start looking for salvaged Avenger/200's as a donor for engine, transmission, and any other necessary electronics.

Any help appreciated.

I'd wondered the same thing. Looking forward to seeing how it goes

One of the Neon guys got the 3.3 c-van engine in a PL (Neon).
If anyone's interest, I'll link.

Not a big fan of v-6's, exhaust manifolds are cast in head, I Know none of us are ever going to put headers on it, but just know we CAN'T sucks!

Seems it would be easier to work with the turbo, the old PT and Neon 2.4 is well proven, has TONS of aftermarket support, and is reliable as heck.

But if you just want to do it to do it, ACES! go for it!!!

Agree about going turbo. You'll get more power and better mpg. But, if you want to do it then give it a shot. It will be a lot of work, more than you can even guess. There's a gentleman from Hawaii who has installed a 6 cyl in a PT, well almost as he still has a bit of work to do to finish. His work is exceptional. You should talk to him.

I've seen the V6 in the Hawaiian PT but if I am not mistaken, I believe that is a rear drive PT.

I was thinking of the Pentastar V6 because of the Fuel Economy. If the Avenger or Chrysler 200 can get 32 mpg on the Highway, that is what I'm looking for.

I can barely squeeze 25mpg out of the 2.4 and that is on a good day. Normally avg 22.5mpg.

Oh yeah with the v6 tucked under the hood....what a sleeper that would be.

Is it really cost effective....probably not. But if it could be a plug and play conversion with changing out the computer, I would be willing to give it a try.

Anyway....just a thought.

Probably speaking sarcastically about it's outside appearance.

I agree with the others. If you've got the time and knowledge, go for it! A lot's been done with the PT that still amazes how it became possible.

If the Pentastar V6 could be installed without any modifications and looking at the PT no one could tell that vehicle had a V6 in it. It would probably be alot faster than a 2.4L non turbo 4 cyl. and get 32 mpg on the highway. Of course being fast and getting that mileage per gallon could not happen at the sametime.

My age may have been shown when I said sleeper....I am over 50.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or the knowledge. But may could have the money to have it done.

Here's a link to Allpar's writeup on the pentstar, they don't allow linking of photo's

Chrysler Pentastar V6 Engines for 2010 and Beyond

Last phot shows a good shot of exhaust manifold cast in,

and you're correct, cast in exhausts are pretty peerless in modern engines.
IIRC, some old straight sixes may hav had them, but that'd be ancient history!
