I think the heater core is going out in my 03. How hard is this to replace myself.

All help greatly appreciated. aodoggie

Ask XtrmDC2. I'm sure he'll share the experience....

Why do you think that by the way? Whats going on? Had friend tear half his dash out because he smelled antifreeze. Turn out to be a small leak under the hood.

I'm here....Is a major PITA to do it...To me is a lot easier to do a timing belt than a heater core...
Get yourself a Haines manual and it will help you a lot, but like busted_pt said, make sure you really need a heater core...and if you have to take everything apart you may want to change the evaporator while you are there ( $80 ) just to make sure you don't have to do the whole job again, if that thing leaks later on

Copy that... I found some moisture on the floor and there is a film on the windows, plus it has a real strong smell of anti freeze in the cab.
Guess I make an appointment with my mechanic....thank you

Yeah, that sounds and smells like it

BTW, to get to the heater core, you'll need to remove the steering wheel, steering column, center console, radio, ac/heater controls, air bags, dash cover ,pillars, globe box, wire harness, evacuate freon,... disconnect ac evaporator, disconnect heater core hoses, remove dash frame....then you can reach the heater box and after you take it apart you'll reach the heater core....
Pretty much, a piece of cake...

No doubt! Let us know what the damage to the wallet is. Might be helpful to someone.

The dash tear out was what stopped me from doing it myself... dealer wanted about $1100 but a local mechanic whom I have used in the past and trust completely only wanted about $800.... we will see. Thanks everyone for all the good input, I really love this little car and with 70000 on the clock it's the first problem I've had.....
