Default Rear Bumper Proximity Sensors/Alarm

My wife has neck problems that make it difficult for her to get turned around enough when she is backing up her 2007 PTC. I have factory parking assist sensors on my car that set off an alarm when I am in reverse and the rear bumper gets too close to an object. Has anyone added something like that to their PTC? Was it ever a factory option or are there kits available? I did a search but did not find any hits. Thanks! Tom

you can find these kits from most accessories stores and even online:

Smart&Small Ultrasonic Reverse Parking Sensor System US | eBay

dead easy to fit - drill some holes, fix module somewhere in the boot area, wire it in to your reversing lights.

Thanks for the pointer. That looks exactly like what I wanted. I would still be interested in anyone with first hand experience with a particular kit. How sensitive is it? Anything in particular to watch for when locating and mounting the sensors? Any kit they like better than others? I realize that probably not many people add these to their PTs but I figured it would not hurt to ask. Thanks again for pointing out the one on eBay.

no problem

i have never used one myself, but i have installed one on a friends car. nothing too difficult. theyre all pretty much the same, whether you pay 20 or 100 for one, it still beeps when you get too close to something.

you could go all out and install a rear parking camera...

I installed a set on my wifes car, dead easy to fit, only put two sensors on, about 3-4 inches above and either side of edges of number plate (hope that makes sense), in other words equi-distant from each end of bumper. I ran the wires into the space behind the rear light cluster and used heavy duty double sided sticker foam to locate control box then used a Scotch-Block to connect to the reverse light power.

Most difficult part was to get the sounder inside the car. I had to remove all the side trim and seat belt anchor to get to a place where I could get the wire through.

Works a dream.
